Grant of Letters of Administration - Notes
Please read this page before completing the questionnaire.
1. You must check that you are the person who is entitled to apply for the grant. If there are persons better entitled or equally entitled we must adjust the documents we prepare to explain why you (or you jointly with someone else), are the applicant, rather than the other persons equally or better entitled.
2. The following classes of people have the right to apply in the priority shown:-
a). Surviving husband or wife.
b). Children and Grandchildren of the deceased.
c). Parents of the deceased.
d). Brothers or sisters of the deceased.
If you do not fit into any one of these categories then seek advice.
3. You must be 18 to apply.
4. Illegitimate children may apply.
5. Make absolutely sure that there is no will. Check around, e.g. at the bank to see if they hold anything. Look at the deceased’s papers, you may find something that will give a clue to a will having been made, e.g. a solicitors' bill for having drawn the will.
PLEASE NOTE
(a). The scheme is not intended to give advice.
(b). Our interactive Probate scheme can ONLY be used where the estate does not exceed £312,000.
(c). Within the scheme we obtain information from you, prepare the necessary affidavit for you, apply for and obtain a Grant of Letters of Administration which we then send to you with an indication of the steps then necessary. If at that point you wish us to deal with the administration of the estate then you may contact us for a quote of cost.
