Everyone, unfortunately, is likely to have to deal with the death of a loved
one at some time in their
lives and the very last thing that is wanted is to have to deal with difficult bureaucracy
at a time of bereavement. The terms, Grant of Probate and Grant of Letters of
Administration, are relatively familiar but few have more than a vague idea of what each
means.
A Grant of Probate is the authority given by the Probate Registry for the executors named
in a will to gather together the deceaseds estate and to then distribute it
according to the wishes contained in that will. A Grant of Letters of Administration on
the other hand is obtained where the deceased died without leaving a will.
